Start a business now? You must be mad!
Start a business now? In a recession? You must be mad!
Well that is what some people think but I don’t agree. In fact this could be the very best time to start up.
Ok so maybe your customers have less money to spend but costs are lower too. Start small now and let it grow and learn to survive. You may not be making much money for a while but you can learn the business, make contacts, build trust, reputation and a customer base. ThenĀ when things improve your business will be there to take off.
Of course getting finance is not going to be easy but this is one way in which an internet-based business using Provide-On-Demand (POD) services or selling information and eBooks can have a big advantage. Why? Simply because very little capital is required.
You don’t need stock or warehouses or employees – all that is in effect contracted out.
For example you might want to design and sell t-shirts or office goods or interior design products such as clocks or cushions. (Or bags or ear-rings or watches or… there are a lot of possibilities).
You create – or buy – the designs, you set up the store, you advertise and sell the items. And then some other company covers all the costs of producing and shipping them! And the profit comes to you.
If you sell information products distributed over the net then there is not even a physical product to deal with (although if you sell on ebay current regulations say that you must provide a physical copy on CD as well).
So right here right now could be the perfect time to start a new small business – and the writer of this article in The Independent newspaper agrees:

Syd,
I have had a number of attempts at building a business in the last ten or so years and I have had limited success in all of them for one reason or another. I agree with you that this is probably the best time ever to start an Internet Marketing Business. More people than I have ever known are losing their jobs and will be looking to the Internet for the answer. With JT’s Masterclass training and support in our armoury I am the most confident I have ever been that I will build a successful business at the ‘worst’ time and after the webinar last night where John and the team were ‘live’ I the time to be involved is now!
All the best
Steve
Steve,
Many thaks for the positive comment. It’s not going to be easy but we have to try. The most important thing I think is focus: there are so many new opportunities coming along all the time that it is vital to stick to the one I have chosen.
Good luck with your blog and all your projects!
Best wishes
Syd

Hi Syd, you are setting a great example and looks good. Had to negotiate your business site and luckily saw your personal blog on the sidebar, which is more interesting at the moment, as I’m not in market for a Tshirt just now – although come to think of it, I do wear a lot of T shirts, got any with Sir Ed on them
)
All the best with your online endeavours.
